Club Brugge Target Huddersfield Forward Laurent Depoitre to Replace Brazilian Striker

Huddersfield's Laurent Depoitre has been linked with a move to Club Brugge in order to potentially replace Brazilian striker Wesley, according to reports in Belgium.

Since arriving from Porto last season, Depoitre has struggled to nail down a first-team place at the John Smith's Stadium and has failed to open his goal-scoring account this year.

Despite his struggles however, Belgian publication Voetbal 24 have claimed that the 30-year-old's stock has not fallen in his home country, and that Brugge are keeping a close eye on developments over his ongoing situation.

The Jupiler Pro League side are resigned to losing promising young forward Wesley, who had been linked with a move away from the Jan Breydel Stadium all summer.

It has been reported that Depoitre's profile marks him out as an ideal candidate to replace the Brazilian, but the Belgian side would struggle to match the striker's current wages at Huddersfield.

The report also adds that Brugge are reluctant to let their star man leave midway through the season, so any deal for Depoitre is likely to only take place in the summer, when Wesley's own departure from the club is confirmed.

After shining in his three years at Brugge's rivals Gent, Depoitre earned a high-profile €6m

move to European giants Porto in 2016. The Belgian struggled to establish himself at the Estadio do Dragao, featuring just 13 times and scoring twice.

However, at the end of the season, David Wagner's Huddersfield brought the striker to the Premier League, where he has managed to find the net just six times in his 51 appearances at the club.
