Brentford, buoyed by their win at Luton on Saturday, beat a much-improved Huddersfield Town 1-0 in an entertaining encounter at Griffin Park in front of the Bees' lowest League gate of the season.

The visitors started brightly and in the ninth minute Andy Booth found himself clear in the box but his close-range effort was blocked by the Bees' man-of-the-match keeper Paul Smith.

Two minutes later a cross from the left was met by Booth and his bullet header flashed just over the bar.

In the 15th minute the industrious Booth had another header saved at the near post by Smith.

The Bees' first real effort on target came six minutes before the break when a 30-yard Kevin O'Connor strike was tipped away for a corner by Phil Senior.

From the resulting Michael Dobson corner, keeper Senior made a brilliant fingertip save from Matt Somner's header.

On the stroke of half time Dwayne Mattis broke clear in the box but his goalbound effort was blocked by Smith's legs for a corner.

Seven minutes after the break the Terriers should have opened the scoring when Martin Smith raced clear beating the offside trap but another fine save by Smith denied him a goal.

Four minutes later the home side scored the all-important goal when Rowan Vine played Mark McCammon clear and he ran on and from 15 yards rammed the ball home just inside the left-hand post.

In the 63rd minute McCammon's diving header grazed the outside of the left-hand post and a minute later he saw his 20-yard strike hit the crossbar and rebound to safety.

The Terriers made two late substitutions to try and snatch a draw but the home side held on to secure all three points.
