Colchester and Huddersfield fought out a dour scoreless draw at Layer Road.

The Terriers had not kept a clean sheet for nine league games but they made sure of not making it 10 with a solid five-man defensive unit giving little away.

Colchester for their part were the better side especially in the first half with the U's Gavin Johnson having two decent opportunities.

The first fell to him on the quarter hour as a Joe Keith corner landed on his left foot and the former Ipswich man volleyed well from 12 yards out but straight at Huddersfield keeper Paul Rachubka.

Five minutes before half time Johnson was again on hand at the back post to connect with a flick from Greg Halford but his shot flashed over the bar.

Craig Fagan was lively throughout and he had a shot deflected wide as Colchester keeper Aidan Davison, returning between the sticks for the Essex club, had little to do throughout.

On the balance of play Colchester should have been ahead but in the second half Huddersfield improved and Pawel Abbot had a great chance 15 minutes from time when, with only Davidson to beat, he failed to get the ball passed the keeper.

The Terriers will be happier with their point and for Colchester it is now nine games without a win.
