Honours were shared in a full-blooded derby clash that attracted Belle Vue's biggest league gate for many years.

Huddersfield dominated at the start but once Doncaster got into their stride they caused the visitors all sorts of problems and could have taken maximum points with better finishing.

There was a scare for Rovers in the second minute when Lee Fowler chanced his luck when he spotted keeper Andy Warrington off his line with a free-kick from over 40 yards out.

It seemed to be heading over Andy Warrington and into the net but the Doncaster keeper recovered to collect the ball from under the crossbar.

There was no respite as Doncaster continued to struggle and Huddersfield snatched a deserved lead in the seventh minute.

It resulted from a mix-up in defence after Michael McIndoe had lost the ball in midfield.

Fowler carried the move forward for Town and Rovers looked to be off the hook when Simon Marples cleared but the ball ran straight to Andy Booth who hammered home in fine style.

Rovers began to get into their stride prompted by impressive midfielder John Doolan who set up a series of chances which went begging.

Doolan sent Paul Green racing clean through in the 17th minute but the youngster flicked his shot just over the crossbar.

Michael McIndoe failed to act quickly enough when presented with a golden chance in the 36th minute and Leo Fortune-West headed wide from point-blank range three minutes later.

Fortune-West made amends when he headed the equaliser two minutes after the interval from Jamie Paterson's right-wing cross.

Rovers went on to dominate the second half but were unable to find the winner their attacking efforts deserved with Paterson and McIndoe both missing good chances.

Huddersfield did well to hold out for a point but their performance was marred when substitute Danny Schofield was sent off against his hometown club for a rash tackle on Doolan in stoppage time.
