Jake Robinson grabbed the first hat-trick of his career as Brighton ended Huddersfield Town's run of three successive wins in emphatic style.

Robinson, who celebrated his 20th birthday last Monday, scored twice in seven minutes in the first half and then completed his treble after the break.

Striker Robinson, a Brighton youth team product nurtured by boss Dean Wilkins, is now turning his immense promise into goals and has scored six in his last three games.

Huddersfield were simply dreadful and the game was as good as over when Robinson headed the first in the 23rd minute.

Town had two inexperienced defenders in the back four - right-back Aaron Hardy and centre-back John McCombe - and they were run ragged at times.

Robinson and strike partner Alex Revell were outstanding and their combined pace, power and movement left the Town defence floundering.

The Seagulls were urged on by diminutive wideman Dean Cox who set up both Robinson's first-half goals.

The game was over when, four minutes from time, Town left-back Danny Adams was sent off for violent conduct as he challenged Revell.

Huddersfield, whose performances have not been as good as recent results suggest, never got their game together and Brighton were on top right from the start.

Cox's brilliant throughball left Revell with only Matt Glennon to beat but the keeper stood tall to block. Cox then fired one in from distance but Glennon was equal to it.

The Seagulls went ahead when Robinson was left unmarked to head down Cox's cross. The header, from fully 12 yards, bounced in front of Glennon who got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out.

Seven minutes later Cox was the creator again and his ball into the box bypassed Martin McIntosh and Adams and Robinson, again on his own, fired home via a deflection off Glennon's leg.

Huddersfield boss Peter Jackson sent his players out early for the start of the second half but Robinson finished them off five minutes after the restart when he took a pass from Dean Hammond, cut inside and produced a superb finish into the far corner.
Huddersfield offered little and only briefly rallied when Andy Booth and Chris Brandon came on and Wilkins was even afforded the luxury of replacing Robinson to a standing ovation with 24 minutes left.

Huddersfield's miserable day was completed when Adams was sent off for the second time in four matches late on.
