Stockport County recorded their fourth consecutive league win to further increase the pressure on relegation-haunted Huddersfield Town.

Andy Booth's third minute header from Jon Stead's corner had given the visitors the lead which they held until the 78th minute.

After falling behind, County enjoyed the bulk of possession but failed to draw level as they squandered a host of chances.

Jon Daly was the main culprit, although Phil Senior in the visitors goal had the game of his life.

And it was Senior who denied Jim Goodwin an equaliser deep into first half stoppage time when he turned his point blank header around the post.

After the break, County once again dominated and once again Daly missed gilt-edged opportunities to draw his side level.

At the other end, Booth's acrobatic diving header flashed over Ola Tidman's bar as Huddersfield looked to put the game beyond County.

But the contest changed with the introduction of County's Ricky Lambert and Andy Welsh after 72 minutes, and with almost his first touch Welsh was involved in the move that led to County's equaliser.

After a mazy run down the left flank, Welsh's one-two with Aaron Lescott and low cross from the byline resulted in Daly five-footing the ball home from five yards.

Ninety seconds later, Daly squared the ball to Aaron Wilbraham whose right-footed rocket from the edge of the box flew past Senior for his fourth goal in three games to seal County's second win in four days.

"I don't think it was a particularly good performance," said County boss Carlton Palmer, "But if we are going to be successful, then we have got to win games like that." For his part, Huddersfield Town manager Mel Machin felt his side had done enough to claim all three points.

"The lad's thought they could have held on to win 1-0, but we sat back and that played into Stockport's strength," he said.
