Injury Updates on Huddersfields Elphick, Simpson & Campbell Following Defeat to Preston

Huddersfield Town are sweating over the fitness of defender Tommy Elphick, after the 32-year-old was on the receiving end of a strong tackle during the Terriers' 3-1 defeat to Preston on Saturday - although its positive news for Frazier Campbell and Danny Simpson.

Elphick is set to undergo a scan on his knee to understand the extent of the damage he suffered when Ryan Ledson's late challenge left the full-back in a heap on the ground.

The ex-Aston Villa man will miss Huddersfield's warm-weather training camp in Dubai over the international break, and the The Examiner reports that Preston boss Alex Neil admitted that the nasty tackle was 'worse' than he first imagined.

"At the time I didn't even think it was a booking if I'm being honest. Since I've watched it back it was worse than what I thought," Neil confessed after the match.

There was better news for the Terriers' boss Danny Cowley regarding the fitness of Simpson and Campbell, as the pair will travel with the rest of the group to their upcoming training camp.

Danny Simpson

Simpson picked up a knock during Saturday's defeat at Deepdale, and was substituted along with Elphick, feeling a niggle in his hip which had disrupted his preparations leading up to the match.

Campbell didn't feature for Huddersfield due to a tight hamstring, but the decision was precautionary and both his and Simpson's injuries are only minor and the pair will be fit for the Terriers' next Championship contest.

Huddersfield suffered a torrid start to life back in the second division following their Premier League relegation, and were marooned at the bottom of the table after ten games. The Cowley brothers replaced the sacked Jan Siewert and have helped to turn around the club's fortunes, who now sit three points above the bottom three and look far more organised and competitive.
