There was little to choose from between the two sides after a much-hyped and extremely tense encounter which, owing to results elsewhere, saw neither promoted on the day.
The outstanding Efetobore Sodje made sure there was no way through for City, who suffered a massive blow when top scorer Ben Burgess picked up a knee injury likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
The first 15 minutes was largely uneventful, though a clash between David Mirfin and Sodje, who were both trying to head the ball back to the keeper, caused an extended period of stoppage, after which Sodje returned with stitches to his head and Mirfin had his head bandaged up.

From the resulting corner, Lewis rose to head the ball into the net, but to City's dismay the referee disallowed the goal after spotting an infringement in the box, but it was not clear what this was.
After 37 minutes, John McAliskey's low shot in the box was saved by Boaz Myhill after a brief period of pressure by the Terriers, but things were still very tense.
After the restart, McAliskey got the ball a few yards out but failed to connect. If he had, it would have been a certain goal, but Myhill collected safely.
Two minutes later, Burgess did well to win the ball and put Allsopp clear but the striker's shot went inches wide of the far post with only the keeper to beat.
Barely five minutes later, Burgess was stretchered off after clashing with keeper Rachubka.
Ashbee shot wide after 78 minutes as The Tigers piled on the pressure, but Sodje seemed to be keeping them at bay almost single-handedly. And in injury time, Rachubka did well to save a header from Lewis, but a point was on balance a fair result.
