Kidderminster Harriers took a giant step towards safety by damaging Huddersfield Town's promotion hopes.

Jan Molby's men hit back from Saturday's grim 1-0 defeat at basement club Carlisle, despite having striker Ian Foster sent off in the first half.

A header from Wayne Hatswell and an own goal proved enough to end the Terriers' five -match unbeaten run.

Delighted Molby said: "That's as good a performance as we have produced for the four years we have been in the Football League.

"I still think that come the end of the season it will prove that the teams that go down will have less than 50 points and we have 50 points now." Disappointed Huddersfield chief, Peter Jackson, said: "It's a blow but it's not a critical blow. It's disappointing that we have dropped points, but things are still in our hands even though we have got beaten.

"Two sloppy goals have cost us but I am not making excuses." Kidderminster were well worth their 1-0 half time lead through Hatswell, who struck in the 30th minute.

The central defender was left completely unmarked to head a pinpoint Steve Burton corner past Paul Rachubka.

A minute later Rachubka managed to tip a shot from Simon Brown on to the bar and over for an unproductive corner.

Four minutes after Hatswell had broken the deadlock Kidderminster had Foster sent off after appearing to lash out at Efe Sodje.

Huddersfield's only serious first-half scoring attempt came just before the interval when a free-kick by Tony Carss found Andy Booth, whose header glanced off the top of the bar.

Danny Schofield missed a good chance for the Terriers just after half-time, before Molby's troops stretched their lead in the 54th minute courtesy of an own goal by Anthony Lloyd.

He turned the ball into his own net after a dazzling run and cross by on-loan striker Chris Brown.

Huddersfield staged a rousing late rally which was rewarded in the 84th minute when Kidderminster's giant central defender Abdou Sall headed into his own net following a cross by substitute Gary Harkins.
